crea·ture/ˈkrēCHər/noun
Step into a world where Necromorphs lurk in shadowy corners, Galaxy Rangers traverse distant stars, and Biophage wreak havoc on unsuspecting victims. For as long as I can remember, I've been immersed in the art of creature and character design and the worlds they live in. I remember having my mom read "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak over and over again, as well as Dr. Suess who mostly drew creatures not humans.
Driven by passion and curiosity, I went on a journey to explore the depths of imagination through a series I call “Creatures”. What started as a simple endeavor in black and white soon evolved into adding color, experimenting with techniques and adding scale.
Join me on this odyssey of creativity. I've poured my heart and soul into these creations, and I invite you to experience the emotions and responses that they evoke. Welcome to my world—I hope you find as much excitement in it as I have.
"The Mouth"

More about him in the "Stories" section.
"Karunga versus Bear Trap: Heavyweight fight"
24" x 18"
Kept seeing UFC Championship Fight advertisements and they inspired me to create this one.
"Agath"
30" x 44"
Whew, this was a lot of detail! And I loved every section of it. It is one of my bigger pieces and each square inch is just pure detail. These are like puzzles when I'm creating them and trying to design everything so it fits together.
Find out more of his backstory in the "Stories" section.
"Nasty Beasts"
30" x 22.5"
I was just messing around with these characters for a video game idea and wanted to put a few together on paper to see how they looked as a group.
"Armadillo"
22.5" x 30"
See his story in the "Stories" section.
While drawing I kept seeing him running around in this video game idea I had been working on. Maybe he will show up in a game someday.
"Five Skulls" started out as some sketches while I was trying to design tattoos. I got a little out of control and ended up with these fellas. I still like them, just not sure if they're tattoo material.

Call of Duty: WWll
18" x 24"
Designed for Call of Duty: WWll Nazi Zombies. If you notice the pattern on the right side, that's handmade silk paper. I cut off the white paper and mounted him against the silk which had a pattern that I liked for him. Just an experiment.

Directing the Nazi Zombies game mode was so much fun. Great team. We created something truly original and very scary. And designing the characters was also great fun.

Creatures that have established themselves in culture
I do not like witches! But I enjoyed drawing this one.

I'm not so convinced that they're here just to observe us.

A future version where his bones are fused and grown with the strongest tree roots. They are now ten times stronger and also more flexible.
Monsters I grew up with
They have so many different looks these days, from human to pure monster.
Pretty much the creature I would want to be.
Still not exactly sure how you kill a mummy.
TV, Movies
I felt the first It movie was a horror movie and It 2 was more of a monster movie. I enjoyed both.
The Walking Dead. I really thought this was a very imaginative new zombie type.
From Hellboy The Angel is an amazing character. I really got into the details and patterns.
TV, Movies
The Last of Us. Amazing franchise. The Clicker was so hard for me to kill at first. But what a cool character.
Frank's one of my favorites to draw.

Probably should have called him "No Eyes".
He's not really a demon, he just likes to call himself that. This is one of my favorite pieces. When you don't have exact symmetry (which I don't do), I believe you have to have balance. I enjoyed making this piece balance and look symmetrical.
Rich, fast spaceship, lots of tentacles.
They're just misunderstood.
Mad at himself.
Mad at you.
Mad. Stark raving MAD.
Well, to me they are.
I really enjoyed blending all the colors in the brown.
I love getting in there with all the detail on this one.
I wanted the hands to be relatable yet still weird.
I've been drawing in black and white since I was just a little kid. My mom still has a couple of those pen and inks. I always wanted to be a cartoonist, so I continued to draw in black and white and studied all the great cartoonists. I learned so much from Mad Magazine and comic books.
I use hundreds of pens a year but probably over a thousand pens during the making of the creatures series. I get pens from all over the world. I try them all out. I also use brush pens and whatever feels right for the character that I'm working on.
I draw everywhere I go. I have a handmade portfolio case that fits in carry-on when I fly. I draw in public and even draw while riding the exercise bike. I have traveling bags that carry over 200 pens.

The Nillian, akin to the Floater, originates from a planet ravaged by millions of years of devastation, leaving most intelligent life to hover above the contaminated ground. They exhibit a reclusive nature, preferring to avoid interactions with other creatures. However, when threatened, their numerous tentacles prove highly lethal. Thriving in the harsh and misty swamplands, they've adapted to survive in their unforgiving environment.
The tale of the Necrobots is both tragic and disturbing, born out of dire circumstances to save a world from ruin. Their origin, a blend of deceased tissue and ingenious engineering, renders them a formidable force despite their outlawed status. Encountering one is a sure sign of big trouble.
A cousin to Appendages, the Sentry is a huge beast almost ten feet tall. Its various arms and claws make him a spine-chilling creature who is used as security all over the Universe.
The Armadillo, despite its name, bears little resemblance to the traditional concept of an Armadillo. While it does seem shy, its true distinction lies in its terrifying predatory nature. Weighing in at over 350 pounds, equipped with numerous teeth and a mighty tail, the Armadillo poses a significant threat. It's a creature one instinctively avoids encountering.
A colossal, snarling, sniveling, googling, goo-dripping entity. He’s a giant mouth. Yet, he's more than just that— a top-tier hitman, an unmatched assassin. Keep your distance. There are whispers, mere rumors really, of eyewitnesses claiming to see his head detach and soar off, leaving the body behind. Pure speculation.

The Agath hails from a solitary planet inhabited solely by their race. They are profoundly devout, dedicating their lives to constant prayer and strict adherence to their gods' teachings. Any deviation from their prescribed way of life results in immediate death, often through gruesome means like skin removal. Despite facing such a fate, one Agath miraculously survived having their skin entirely torn off and was subsequently exiled from the planet. However, the trauma of his experience led him to descend into madness, forming a cult where followers willingly undergo the same ordeal. While his whereabouts remain unknown for years, there's speculation that he may have found solace on another planet with his devoted followers.

This alien astronaut's suit is actually integrated into his body, attached just before takeoff. The insertion causes him pain and discomfort. Adding to his distress, he experiences a crash landing, which is reflected in the depiction. Bad day.
The Knarlith’s planet is teeming with massive insects and flying creatures, some reaching up to three feet in size. The Knarlith species have evolved to capture these creatures. Much like frogs on Earth, they use their chin-tongue and various appendages to sense and snatch prey from the air, drawing it into their enormous mouths.

The Pneumii represent a race deeply attuned to their environment, evolving into immense plant-like entities known for their colossal size and longevity. Combining elements of trees, vines, and webs, these beings grow up to a thousand feet tall and can thrive for over a hundred thousand years. Upon death, they continue to exist as a collective consciousness, perpetuating their existence for millennia. The transformation from human to Pneumii involves burial, followed by a sixty-year gestation period, during which the individual's head erupts from the ground and begins its transformation into the iconic plant form.
